What is Baybayin?
Baybayin is an ancient script from the Philippines with 17 characters used before Spanish colonization. Each character represents a syllable and is written from top to bottom and left to right. It was used for official documents, poetry, and religious texts, but declined in use with colonization. Efforts are being made to revive and preserve Baybayin to reconnect with Filipino identity and history, offering insights into pre-colonial Philippine society and cultural roots.
